Broiled Salt Mackerel

Broiled Salt Mackerel

A classic recipe for broiled salt mackerel, freshened and seasoned.

Ingredients

  • 1 piece Salt Mackerel
  • as needed Water
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • to taste Black Pepper
  • to taste Lemon Juice
  • to taste Vinegar
  • to taste Chopped Pickle

Instructions

  1. 1Place the salt mackerel in a bowl and cover it completely with cold water. Ensure the skin lies uppermost. Soak overnight in the refrigerator to freshen the fish.
  2. 2In the morning, remove the mackerel from the water and pat it dry with paper towels, taking care not to break the fish. Cut off the head and the tip of the tail.
  3. 3Preheat your broiler. Place the prepared mackerel on a buttered fish gridiron or broiler pan. Broil for approximately 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is lightly browned and cooked through. The exact time will depend on the thickness of the fish and the intensity of your broiler. Check frequently to prevent burning.
  4. 4Carefully transfer the broiled mackerel to a hot dish. Dress with a little butter, pepper, lemon juice, vinegar, or chopped pickle, according to your preference.
