Bread Sauce
A classic sauce made with bread, milk, and onion.
Ingredients
- 1 large Large onion
- 1 teaspoon Black peppercorns
- 2 cups Whole milk
- 2 cups Grated stale white bread
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 1 teaspoon All-purpose flour
Instructions
- 1Quarter the onion. In a saucepan, combine the onion, black peppercorns, and milk. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook until the onion is softened, about 15 minutes. (175°F / 80°C)
- 2Strain the milk mixture over the grated stale bread. Cover and let it sit for about an hour.
- 3In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Add the bread mixture and bring to a simmer, stirring until the sauce thickens. Serve hot.
