Bread Griddle Cakes
A simple recipe for griddle cakes made with bread.
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb. Bread
- 1 pint Flour
- 1 teaspoonful Brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoonful Salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoonfuls Royal Baking Powder
- 3/4 pint Milk
- 1 Egg
- as needed Sugar
- as needed Cream
Instructions
- 1Remove the crust from the bread. Steep the bread in warm water until thoroughly soaked. Then, wring the bread dry in a towel.
- 2Dilute the soaked bread with the beaten egg and milk. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Add the dry ingredients to the prepared bread mixture and mix together until a smooth batter forms.
- 3Heat a griddle over medium heat. Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto the hot griddle for each cake. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- 4Serve the griddle cakes immediately with sugar and cream.
