Bread and Butter Pudding

A classic bread pudding recipe.

Ingredients

  • 4 rolls Vienna Rolls or Bread
  • as needed Butter
  • 1/2 cupful Currants
  • 1 1/2 pints Whole Milk (Originally sweet milk. Substituted with whole milk for modern preference.)
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 cupful Sugar
  • 1 teaspoonful Nutmeg (Originally Royal Extract Nutmeg. Substituted with ground nutmeg.)

Instructions

  1. 1Slice the Vienna rolls or bread and butter them. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. 2Beat the eggs and sugar together. Add the milk and nutmeg. Pour this mixture over the slices of rolls laid in a buttered pudding dish, with currants sprinkled between. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the pudding is set and golden brown.
