Boiled Corned Beef and Turnips
A classic boiled dinner featuring corned beef and turnips.
Ingredients
- 1 piece Corned beef brisket (Select a piece not too salty.)
- 12 medium Turnips (Peeled and quartered.)
- 8 cups Water (For boiling the beef.)
- 2 tablespoons Butter (For drawn butter sauce.)
Instructions
- 1Select a corned beef brisket that is not too salty. Place the beef in a large pot and cover with plenty of cold water.
- 2Bring the water to a slow boil. Once simmering, cook for 18 minutes per pound of beef.
- 3When the beef is about 3/4 cooked, add the peeled and quartered turnips to the pot.
- 4When both the beef and turnips are thoroughly cooked, remove the beef and arrange the turnips around it. Serve with drawn butter, using the pot liquor as a base. The remaining liquor can be used to make soup the next day.
