Boiled Corned Beef and Turnips

Boiled Corned Beef and Turnips

A classic boiled dinner featuring corned beef and turnips.

Ingredients

  • 1 piece Corned beef brisket (Select a piece not too salty.)
  • 12 medium Turnips (Peeled and quartered.)
  • 8 cups Water (For boiling the beef.)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (For drawn butter sauce.)

Instructions

  1. 1Select a corned beef brisket that is not too salty. Place the beef in a large pot and cover with plenty of cold water.
  2. 2Bring the water to a slow boil. Once simmering, cook for 18 minutes per pound of beef.
  3. 3When the beef is about 3/4 cooked, add the peeled and quartered turnips to the pot.
  4. 4When both the beef and turnips are thoroughly cooked, remove the beef and arrange the turnips around it. Serve with drawn butter, using the pot liquor as a base. The remaining liquor can be used to make soup the next day.
