Blackberry Fritters
A simple recipe for blackberry fritters.
Ingredients
- 1 cupful Blackberries
- 1 1/4 cupfuls Common Batter
- 1 cupful Butter (or vegetable shortening) (Originally lard. Substituted with butter for modern preference. Can also use vegetable shortening for similar texture.)
- as needed Sauce (e.g., powdered sugar glaze or fruit sauce)
Instructions
- 1Mix the blackberries into the Common Batter in a bowl.
- 2Heat the butter (or vegetable shortening) in a deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat until hot. Drop spoonfuls of the batter mixture into the hot fat. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 3Serve the fritters immediately with sauce.
