Bath Buns

A classic bun recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cupful Butter
  • 1 1/2 cupfuls Sugar
  • 2 eggs Eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoonfuls Baking powder
  • 1/2 cupful Candied lemon peel
  • 1 1/2 pints Flour
  • 1/2 pint Milk
  • as needed for dusting Sugar

Instructions

  1. 1Cut the candied lemon peel into small, thin slices. Grease a baking tin and prepare muffin rings.
  2. 2Rub the butter and sugar together until smooth and creamy. Add the eggs and beat for a few minutes. Then, add the flour (with the baking powder sifted in), lemon peel, and milk. Mix until a moderately firm batter forms.
  3. 3Place greased muffin rings on a greased baking tin. Put a large spoonful of batter into each ring. Sift sugar over the tops. Bake in a hot oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes.
