Baked Beans

A classic baked beans recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart Dried beans
  • 4 cups Cold water
  • 1 small piece Salt pork
  • 1 tablespoonful White sugar
  • as needed Bean broth

Instructions

  1. 1Place the beans in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Let soak overnight (about 12 hours).
  2. 2In the morning, put the soaked beans in a kettle with fresh cold water. Bring to a boil and boil for 10 minutes.
  3. 3Change the water and add the salt pork to the beans.
  4. 4Let the beans simmer until nearly tender.
  5. 5Take the beans out of the kettle with a skimmer and put them in a baking dish. Place the salt pork in the center. Cut the rind of the salt pork into small squares.
  6. 6Sprinkle the white sugar over the top. Bake in a preheated oven at 325°F (160°C) for 3 hours. If the beans bake dry, add bean broth.
