Asparagus on Toast

A simple recipe for asparagus on toast.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch Asparagus
  • 6 slices Bread
  • as needed Butter
  • as needed Salt
  • as needed Black Pepper

Instructions

  1. 1Cut asparagus stalks to equal lengths, discarding the woody portions and any scrapings. Retain the whiter parts. Tie the asparagus into a bunch with soft tape.
  2. 2Cook the asparagus in boiling water for about 30 minutes if the stalks are of a fair size; if small, cook for 20 minutes.
  3. 3Have ready 6 or 8 slices of nicely toasted bread.
  4. 4Dip the toasted bread in the asparagus cooking liquid, butter well, and lay on a hot dish. Drain the asparagus, untie, and arrange on the toast. Season with pepper and salt to taste.
