Apple Dumplings, No. 1

A classic apple dumpling recipe.

Ingredients

  • 6 apples Apples
  • 1 cupful Sugar
  • as needed Paste (pie crust)
  • as needed Water

Instructions

  1. 1Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  2. 2Roll out the paste (pie crust) thinly. Wet the edges of 6 cups (or ramekins). Line the cups with the paste. Fill each cup with sliced apples and some sugar. Cover with more paste.
  3. 3Place the prepared dumplings in a shallow stewpan with boiling water to reach halfway up the cups. Steam for 45 minutes.
  4. 4Turn the dumplings out onto a dish and sift sugar over them. Serve with Spice Sauce (not included in original text).
