Whole-meal Bread
A simple and quick whole-meal bread recipe, perfect for tea-time.
Ingredients
- 250 g Coarsely Ground Whole-meal Flour (About 2 cups)
- 125 g Fine Flour (About 1 cup)
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 0.5 tsp Salt
- 50 g Butter, cold and cubed (About 4 tablespoons)
- 120 ml Milk (Approximately 1/2 cup, plus more if needed)
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, whisk together the whole-meal flour, fine flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- 2Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using your fingertips or a pastry blender, rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3Gradually add the milk, mixing until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix. The dough should be slightly sticky.
- 4Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick. Use a cookie cutter or a knife to cut out round cakes. Alternatively, divide the dough into 6 equal portions and shape each into a flat cake.
- 5Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the cakes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for another 5 minutes to ensure they are cooked through.
- 6Transfer the baked cakes to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with butter or your favorite spread.
