Sweet Fritters
A simple recipe for sweet fritters, using a batter similar to savory fritters but with the addition of powdered sugar. These are fried until golden brown and dusted with more powdered sugar.
Ingredients
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 0.25 tsp Salt
- 1 Egg
- 0.75 cup Milk
- 2 tbsp Powdered sugar (for batter)
- 3 cups Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 0.25 cup Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- 2 Apples (or other fruit) (Peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4 inch thick rings)
Instructions
- 1In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and powdered sugar (for batter). Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, whisking until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 2Peel, core, and slice the apples into 1/4 inch thick rings. Ensure the fruit is dry before dipping into the batter.
- 3Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the correct temperature.
- 4Dip each apple slice into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Carefully place the battered apple slices into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding the fryer. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Use a frying basket or slotted spoon to remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a wire rack to drain.
- 5While the fritters are still warm, dust them generously with powdered sugar.
