Stewed Cheese on Toast

Stewed Cheese on Toast

A simple and comforting dish made with leftover cheese, butter, milk, and egg, served on toast.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz Sharp Cheddar Cheese, grated (Use leftover or slightly dried cheese.)
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 2 tablespoons Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 slices Toast (For serving)

Instructions

  1. 1Break up the cheese into small pieces or grate it.
  2. 2Put the cheese in a small saucepan with the butter and milk. Stew gently over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the cheese is dissolved and the mixture is smooth. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
  3. 3Remove the saucepan from the heat. In a small bowl, beat the egg well. Add the beaten egg to the cheese mixture and stir quickly to combine. The heat from the cheese will cook the egg slightly, thickening the mixture.
  4. 4Serve the stewed cheese immediately on toast. You can either spread the cheese mixture on the toast or pour it onto a plate and stick pieces of toast into it.
