Simple Vanilla Ice Cream

A basic and affordable vanilla ice cream recipe using a custard base. This recipe is easy to customize with different flavorings.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups Milk
  • 2 Egg Yolks
  • 1 tablespoon Sweetened Condensed Milk (Original recipe calls for 'Swiss milk', assuming sweetened condensed milk)
  • 0.5 cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  1. 1In a saucepan, combine the milk, egg yolks, sweetened condensed milk, and sugar.
  2. 2Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon. Do not boil.
  3. 3Remove from heat and stir until nearly cold.
  4. 4Add vanilla extract (or any other flavoring you like) and stir well.
  5. 5Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, pour into a freezer-safe container and freeze, stirring every 30 minutes for the first 2 hours to break up ice crystals.
