Simple Vanilla Ice Cream
A basic and affordable vanilla ice cream recipe using a custard base. This recipe is easy to customize with different flavorings.
Ingredients
- 2.5 cups Milk
- 2 Egg Yolks
- 1 tablespoon Sweetened Condensed Milk (Original recipe calls for 'Swiss milk', assuming sweetened condensed milk)
- 0.5 cup Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- 1In a saucepan, combine the milk, egg yolks, sweetened condensed milk, and sugar.
- 2Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon. Do not boil.
- 3Remove from heat and stir until nearly cold.
- 4Add vanilla extract (or any other flavoring you like) and stir well.
- 5Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, pour into a freezer-safe container and freeze, stirring every 30 minutes for the first 2 hours to break up ice crystals.
