Red Currant Jam

A simple recipe for making red currant jam.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Red Currants
  • 1 pound Granulated Sugar
  • 0.25 cup Water

Instructions

  1. 1Wash the red currants thoroughly and remove any stems or leaves.
  2. 2In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the red currants, sugar, and water.
  3. 3Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer gently, stirring occasionally, until the jam thickens. This will take approximately 20-30 minutes. To test for doneness, place a small spoonful of jam on a chilled plate. If it wrinkles when you push it with your finger, it is ready.
  4. 4Carefully pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace. Seal the jars according to the manufacturer's instructions. Process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to ensure proper sealing.
