Potato Balls

These savory potato balls are a simple and satisfying side dish or snack. Mashed potatoes are seasoned with herbs and spices, formed into balls, and then fried until golden brown.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Potatoes (About 2-3 medium potatoes)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt (Or to taste)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper (Or to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (Chopped)
  • 0.25 cup Onion (Finely chopped, or 1 shallot finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried savory herbs (Such as thyme, rosemary, or sage)
  • 1 large Eggs (Well-beaten)
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose flour (For coating)
  • 1 cup Vegetable oil (For frying)

Instructions

  1. 1Peel the potatoes and cut them into evenly sized pieces. Place them in a pot, cover with cold water, and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. 2Drain the potatoes well and return them to the pot. Add the butter, salt, pepper, parsley, onion (or shallot), and savory herbs. Mash until smooth and well combined.
  3. 3Stir in the beaten egg into the mashed potato mixture. Gently roll the mixture into small balls, about 1-inch in diameter.
  4. 4Place the flour in a shallow dish. Roll each potato ball in the flour to coat completely. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the potato balls in batches until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  5. 5Serve the potato balls hot as a side dish or snack.
