Polenta
A simple recipe for making polenta from ground cornmeal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Yellow Cornmeal (Polenta) (Use coarse or medium ground cornmeal.)
- 4 cups Water
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
- 2 tablespoons Butter (optional)
- 0.25 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (optional)
Instructions
- 1In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add salt.
- 2Slowly whisk in the cornmeal, making sure to avoid lumps. Reduce heat to low.
- 3Simmer, stirring frequently, for about 25-30 minutes, or until the polenta is thick and creamy and pulls away from the sides of the pan. The cooking time will vary depending on the grind of the cornmeal.
- 4Remove from heat and stir in butter and Parmesan cheese, if desired. Serve hot.
