Plain Boiled Green Peas
A simple and classic recipe for boiling fresh green peas, enhanced with a touch of mint.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds Fresh green peas, shelled (About 2 pounds of peas in their pods will yield approximately 1 pound of shelled peas.)
- 6 cups Water (For boiling)
- 1 teaspoon Salt (Or to taste)
- 4 sprigs Fresh green mint sprigs
Instructions
- 1Shell the peas if they are not already shelled. Discard the pods.
- 2Bring the water to a rolling boil in a saucepan. Add salt. Throw the shelled peas into the boiling water.
- 3Keep the lid off the saucepan. Cook for 10-20 minutes for young peas, or longer for full-grown peas, until tender. Check for doneness by tasting a pea.
- 4Five minutes before the end of the cooking time, throw in the fresh green mint sprigs.
- 5Drain the peas immediately after they are cooked. Serve immediately, as they are best when freshly cooked and not kept hot.
