Imitation Game Fritters
Savory mushroom fritters with garlic and aromatic herbs, perfect as an appetizer or side dish.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Mushrooms, finely chopped
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Dried Herb Mixture (e.g., Italian blend) (Original recipe calls for 'aromatic flavouring herbs' sold as 'Herbaceous Mixture')
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 2 Eggs
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup Milk
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
- 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
- 2 cups Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- 1Finely chop the mushrooms and mince the garlic.
- 2Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped mushrooms and minced garlic. Sauté until the mushrooms are tender and have released their moisture, about 8-10 minutes.
- 3Stir in the dried herb mixture, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute to allow the flavors to meld.
- 4In a bowl, whisk together the flour, eggs, and milk until smooth. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- 5Add the sautéed mushroom mixture to the batter and stir to combine thoroughly.
- 6Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Drop spoonfuls of the mushroom batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- 7Serve the fritters hot, as an appetizer or side dish.
