Hominy Fritters
A simple recipe for hominy fritters, made from sliced hominy dipped in batter and fried until golden brown.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Cooked Hominy (Leftover cooked hominy, cooled)
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 Egg (Large)
- 0.5 cup Milk
- 0.5 tsp Salt
- 0.25 tsp Black Pepper
- 1 cup Vegetable Oil (For frying)
Instructions
- 1Cut the cold, cooked hominy into thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick.
- 2In a bowl, whisk together the flour, egg, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth. Ensure there are no lumps.
- 3In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it is hot enough for frying. You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles immediately, the oil is ready.
- 4Dip each slice of hominy into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Carefully place the battered hominy slices into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 5Remove the fried hominy fritters from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.
