Fried Jerusalem Artichokes
Thinly sliced Jerusalem artichokes, fried until golden brown and seasoned. A simple and delicious vegetarian side dish.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Jerusalem Artichokes (About 1 pound, peeled)
- 3 cups Vegetable Oil (For frying)
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt (To taste)
- 0.25 teaspoon Black Pepper (Freshly ground, to taste)
- 1 wedge Lemon (For serving)
- 4 slices Brown Bread (Thinly sliced, optional)
- 2 tablespoons Butter (Softened, optional)
Instructions
- 1Peel the Jerusalem artichokes and slice them very thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
- 2Pour the vegetable oil into a deep fryer or a large, heavy-bottomed pot. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches a temperature of 350°F (175°C). A frying basket should be placed in the oil.
- 3Carefully add the sliced Jerusalem artichokes to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the frying basket. Fry for 2-3 minutes, or until they are a bright golden-brown color.
- 4Lift the frying basket out of the oil and shake it gently to remove excess oil. Immediately season the fried artichokes with salt and black pepper. Serve very hot with a wedge of lemon and, optionally, thin brown bread-and-butter.
