Cheese Fritters
A simple recipe for cheese fritters, made with Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, butter, cayenne pepper, and egg yolk, then fried until golden brown.
Ingredients
- 3 ounces Parmesan cheese, finely grated (Use a good quality Parmesan cheese for the best flavor.)
- 2 tablespoons Breadcrumbs (Use fine breadcrumbs.)
- 1 tablespoon Butter, softened (Unsalted butter is recommended.)
- 1 pinch Cayenne pepper (Adjust to your spice preference.)
- 1 Egg yolk (Use a fresh egg.)
- 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour (For dusting.)
- 1 cup Batter (See batter recipe below.)
- 2 cups Vegetable oil (For deep frying.)
- 1 pinch Salt (To taste)
Instructions
- 1In a bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, softened butter, cayenne pepper, salt and egg yolk. Mix well until a thick paste forms.
- 2Roll the cheese mixture into very small balls (about 1/2 inch in diameter). Flatten them slightly into small patties.
- 3Lightly flour the cheese patties, then dip them into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
- 4Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop the battered cheese patties into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- 5Remove the fried fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Place the fritters in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes to ensure they are heated through. Serve immediately.
- 6To make the batter, whisk together 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup milk, 1 egg, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Let it rest for 15 minutes before using.
