Braised Red Cabbage with Lemon
A simple and flavorful way to prepare red cabbage, braised with butter and lemon juice.
Ingredients
- 1 medium head Red Cabbage (About 2 pounds)
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 1 tablespoon All-Purpose Flour
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt (Or to taste)
- 0.25 teaspoon Black Pepper (Or to taste)
- 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice (Freshly squeezed)
Instructions
- 1Remove the outer leaves of the red cabbage. Cut the cabbage in half through the core, then cut each half into thin shreds. Rinse the shredded cabbage in a colander.
- 2Place the shredded cabbage in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and simmer until the cabbage is tender, about 15 minutes. Drain the cabbage thoroughly, pressing out as much moisture as possible.
- 3In the same pot or a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the drained cabbage and stir for a minute. Sprinkle the flour over the cabbage and stir to coat evenly. Cook, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Squeeze the lemon juice over the cabbage and stir to combine. Serve immediately.
