Braised Red Cabbage with Lemon

A simple and flavorful way to prepare red cabbage, braised with butter and lemon juice.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head Red Cabbage (About 2 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 tablespoon All-Purpose Flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt (Or to taste)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black Pepper (Or to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice (Freshly squeezed)

Instructions

  1. 1Remove the outer leaves of the red cabbage. Cut the cabbage in half through the core, then cut each half into thin shreds. Rinse the shredded cabbage in a colander.
  2. 2Place the shredded cabbage in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and simmer until the cabbage is tender, about 15 minutes. Drain the cabbage thoroughly, pressing out as much moisture as possible.
  3. 3In the same pot or a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the drained cabbage and stir for a minute. Sprinkle the flour over the cabbage and stir to coat evenly. Cook, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Squeeze the lemon juice over the cabbage and stir to combine. Serve immediately.
