Boiled Turnips
Simple boiled turnips, a classic side dish that can be served plain or with a variety of sauces.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Turnips (Young turnips are best)
- 6 cups Water (For boiling)
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt (Or to taste)
- 2 tablespoons Butter (Optional, for serving)
Instructions
- 1Peel the turnips thinly. Place the peeled turnips in a bowl of cold water to prevent discoloration.
- 2Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Add salt. Add the turnips to the boiling water. Reduce heat to medium and boil for about 20 minutes, or until the turnips are tender when pierced with a fork.
- 3Drain the turnips well. Serve plain or with butter, white sauce, sauce Allemande, or Dutch sauce. They can also be served with other vegetables.
