Boiled Turnips

Boiled Turnips

Simple boiled turnips, a classic side dish that can be served plain or with a variety of sauces.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Turnips (Young turnips are best)
  • 6 cups Water (For boiling)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt (Or to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (Optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. 1Peel the turnips thinly. Place the peeled turnips in a bowl of cold water to prevent discoloration.
  2. 2Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Add salt. Add the turnips to the boiling water. Reduce heat to medium and boil for about 20 minutes, or until the turnips are tender when pierced with a fork.
  3. 3Drain the turnips well. Serve plain or with butter, white sauce, sauce Allemande, or Dutch sauce. They can also be served with other vegetables.
