Boiled Cabbage
A simple method for boiling cabbage, ensuring even cooking by adding thicker parts first.
Ingredients
- 1 head Large White Cabbage
- 6 cups Water
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 tbsp Butter ((optional))
Instructions
- 1Cut the cabbage into quarters, remove the core, and thoroughly wash the leaves under cold running water.
- 2Bring the water to a boil in a large pot and add the salt. Cut off the thickest part of the cabbage stalk and add it to the boiling water. Wait until the water returns to a boil (about 2 minutes) and let it boil for 3 minutes.
- 3Add the next thickest part of the cabbage to the boiling water. Wait until the water returns to a boil (about 1 minute) and let it boil for 3 minutes. Finally, add the thin, leafy parts of the cabbage and boil for another 2-3 minutes, or until tender.
- 4Drain the cabbage well in a colander. Serve plain or with butter.
