Boiled Broccoli

Boiled Broccoli

A simple recipe for boiling broccoli and serving it with a classic sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 head Broccoli (About 1.5 - 2 pounds)
  • 1 tablespoon Salt (For soaking and boiling)
  • 6 cups Water (For soaking and boiling)
  • 4 tablespoons Butter (For butter sauce)

Instructions

  1. 1Trim the outer leaves off the broccoli and cut the stalk so that it will stand upright. Cut the head into florets.
  2. 2Soak the broccoli in salt and water for 15 minutes to remove any insects. Use 1 tablespoon of salt for 4 cups of water.
  3. 3Bring 2 cups of salted water to a boil in a pot. Add the broccoli and boil until tender, about 5-8 minutes. Check for doneness by piercing the stalk with a fork.
  4. 4While the broccoli is boiling, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. This is your butter sauce.
  5. 5Drain the broccoli and serve on a dish with the flower part uppermost. Pour the butter sauce over the surface.
