Boiled Broccoli
A simple recipe for boiling broccoli and serving it with a classic sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 head Broccoli (About 1.5 - 2 pounds)
- 1 tablespoon Salt (For soaking and boiling)
- 6 cups Water (For soaking and boiling)
- 4 tablespoons Butter (For butter sauce)
Instructions
- 1Trim the outer leaves off the broccoli and cut the stalk so that it will stand upright. Cut the head into florets.
- 2Soak the broccoli in salt and water for 15 minutes to remove any insects. Use 1 tablespoon of salt for 4 cups of water.
- 3Bring 2 cups of salted water to a boil in a pot. Add the broccoli and boil until tender, about 5-8 minutes. Check for doneness by piercing the stalk with a fork.
- 4While the broccoli is boiling, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. This is your butter sauce.
- 5Drain the broccoli and serve on a dish with the flower part uppermost. Pour the butter sauce over the surface.
