Basic Pie Crust

A simple and reliable recipe for a basic pie crust, perfect for beginners.

Ingredients

  • 250 grams All-purpose flour (Approximately 1 pound)
  • 62.5 grams Cold unsalted butter (Approximately 1/4 pound)
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt (Pinch of salt)
  • 4 tablespoons Ice water (Approximately, add more if needed)

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. 2Cut the cold butter into small cubes. Add the butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry blender or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Some small pieces of butter should remain.
  3. 3Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently after each addition. Mix until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
  4. 4Form the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before using.
  5. 5On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to your desired thickness. Transfer to a pie dish and crimp the edges. Bake according to your pie recipe's instructions.
