A simple and reliable recipe for a basic pie crust, perfect for beginners.
Ingredients
- 250 grams All-purpose flour (Approximately 1 pound)
- 62.5 grams Cold unsalted butter (Approximately 1/4 pound)
- 1 teaspoon Baking powder
- 0.25 teaspoon Salt (Pinch of salt)
- 4 tablespoons Ice water (Approximately, add more if needed)
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- 2Cut the cold butter into small cubes. Add the butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry blender or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Some small pieces of butter should remain.
- 3Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently after each addition. Mix until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
- 4Form the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before using.
- 5On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to your desired thickness. Transfer to a pie dish and crimp the edges. Bake according to your pie recipe's instructions.
