Banana Fritters
A simple and delicious dessert made by frying banana slices coated in batter. Ripe bananas are key for the best flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 Ripe Bananas (Slightly overripe bananas are ideal)
- 0.25 cup Granulated Sugar (For coating)
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour (For the batter)
- 1 tsp Baking Powder (For the batter)
- 0.25 tsp Salt (For the batter)
- 0.75 cup Milk (For the batter)
- 1 Egg (For the batter)
- 0.5 tsp Vanilla Extract (For the batter)
- 1 cup Vegetable Oil (For frying)
- 2 tbsp Maraschino Liqueur (optional) (For soaking the banana slices)
Instructions
- 1Peel the bananas and cut them into slices about 1/2 inch thick.
- 2If using, soak the banana slices in maraschino liqueur for about 10 minutes. This will add a subtle almond flavor.
- 3In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 4In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5Dip each banana slice in granulated sugar, then into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Carefully place the coated banana slices into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6Remove the fried banana fritters from the oil and place them on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately while warm. You can dust them with powdered sugar or drizzle with honey for extra sweetness.
